An Analysis Adolescents' Drawing Responses in a Wartegg-Zeichentest(WZT)

Abstract
This study investigated the gender differences in the drawing responses from adolescents on the Wartegg-Zeichen test(WZT). The study participants were 328 second year high school students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province. The instrument was WZT. The assessment items were reorganized based on Ave-Lallemant's method. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and cross analysis. The findings are as follows. First, the frame that was left empty the most in frequency was frame 4. Most of the Stimuli in the eight frames were used into the participants' drawings. In regards to the expression pattern, frames 1, 3 and 4 showed an similar rate of pictorial pattern and pattern to express specific objects. While pictorial pattern were dominant in frames 2, 7, and 8, pattern to express specific objects were dominant in frames 5 and 6. In the pattern to express specific objects, all the frames showed static expressions frequently. In the pictorial pattern, while frame 3 showed many of still-life and landscapes. While frames 2 and 7 showed many drawings of animals, the remaining frames showed many inanimate objects. In regards to the lines used in the drawings, curves were most frequent in the frames 1, 2, 7, and 8. Frames 3 and 4 showed many straight lines. In regards to the order in which each frame was filled, frame 1 was the one which was filled the first, followed by frame 8. In regards to the correspondence of the themes with the drawings, drawings in frame 6 corresponded to the theme the most. Second, gender differences were partly found in the expression pattern, the drawn contents, and the correspondence of the themes with drawings.
